Raghu Mainali, Ph.D., is a prominent figure of Community Radio in Nepal. He served as a print journalist for 8 years before becoming the founding director of Radio Sagarmatha, the first community radio station in South Asia, in 1996. Mainali played a key role in securing the station’s license and served it for four years.

He then became the founding executive director of the Community Radio Support Centre (CRSC) in 2000, where he facilitated the establishment of over 150 community radio stations across Nepal. Mainali’s expertise in policy-making led him to take part in various governmental and international roles.

He is a respected academic, having worked as a visiting scholar at Kathmandu University and currently as a course professor at Nepal Open University. Mainali has authored several books on community radio and journalism and received prestigious awards for his remarkable contributions to the field.

As the Founding President of the Association of Community Radio Broadcasters of Nepal (ACORAB), Mainali played a crucial role in safeguarding the independence of independent radio during challenging times. His dedication to media development and strategic communication makes him a notable figure in Nepal’s media landscape.

Currently, he is the Head of Faculty of Liberal Arts at Madan Bhandari Memorial College.
